Allen Gressett: Passion and Loyalty Define Him

Allen Gressett joined the Memphis, Tennessee office of Schwed, Adams, Sobel & McGinley six months ago. Having been born and raised in Mississippi, Gressett has a deep sense of loyalty and passion for his home state, the work he does and his intrinsic need to give back. Gressett crosses the state line every day to head to work in Tennessee because he feels that he will always live in Mississippi. The great thing is that he is a member of the Tennessee and Mississippi bars so he can practice in both states.

Having majored in Psychology in college, Gressett knew he didn’t want to be a professor or practice clinical Psychology. He found that he was good at speaking and making well thought out points in class and he had a strong interest in social justice. That led him to law school where he found he liked to help people who didn’t have the means or ability to help him or herself. Having first started in the Public Defender’s Office, he moved to Personal Injury work pretty quickly where he found his passion. While working for a previous firm, he helped represent individuals in the class action lawsuit against BP for the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Gressett was instrumental in building a framework for one of the claims that resulted in tens of thousands of people getting over $200 million in settlements. It is career moments like this that drive his passion to help people even more.

Always looking to give back to his home state, Gressett is on the Mississippi Rural Development Board, a nonprofit working to get grants for rural communities in the Mississippi area to build parks and recreational areas with the goal of driving more people into those communities. In his free time, he and his wife love to travel. Watching baseball and football are passions and they love to visit Major League Baseball Parks across the country since they are most accessible with their schedules. Gressett’s favorite parks so far are Fenway Park in Boston due to the historic nostalgia and the Texas Rangers Park, which in his opinion is the most beautiful park he has seen.

Allen’s passion and loyalty drive him on a daily basis whether working for those who have been injured through no fault of their own or creating a better place for the residents of Mississippi to live.
