Workers Comp Reimbursements Florida 2025 Updates

Florida’s workers comp reimbursements saw significant updates in early 2025. As a result, these changes matter to both injured workers and medical providers. Florida lawmakers updated workers comp reimbursements through SB 362 and new state rules, directly changing how care is provided and paid for.

SB 362 and Provider Reimbursement Increases

Florida Senate Bill 362, effective January 1, 2025, raised physicians’ reimbursement rates to 175% of Medicare, and surgical services to 210% of Medicare. This jump is up from 110% and 140%, respectively. These updates aim to encourage more medical providers to accept workers’ comp cases. In turn, this will improve access to care for injured workers in Florida.

What It Means for Injured Workers

Under the revisions, injured workers benefiting from workers comp reimbursements may find a broader network of providers available. This network could potentially reduce delays in treatment. Access to timely care can support faster recoveries and better outcomes. The Florida Department of Financial Services continues to publish updated fee schedules and reimbursement manuals so employers, providers, and workers stay informed. Additionally, as of January 1, 2025, the maximum weekly compensation benefit rose to $1,295, ensuring injured workers receive a fairer amount during recovery.

Context: System-Wide Impacts

Insurers proposed a 1% reduction in premium rates beginning January 1, 2025. At the same time, the enactment of SB 362 is estimated to raise overall system costs by about 5.6%. This underscores how increased provider reimbursement translates into cost pressures. This adjustment is necessary to maintain quality care options. Notably, instability in medical costs per claim was limited; the Workers Compensation Research Institute found medical payments remained stable between 2020 and 2023, suggesting wage trends more strongly influence claim costs.
