Mike Peckham: The Journey to His Passion
Unlike some attorneys, Mike Peckham didn’t know exactly what he wanted to do when he grew up. Instead of wasting his time after high school going to college and partying through the four years, he followed his heart to the sun where he lived in Daytona Beach, the Virgin Islands and Arizona for several years. He also followed his dream to get a job and live in France but when that didn’t pan out, he decided to backpack through 11 European countries and enjoy the sights, architecture and culture.
After five plus years of pursuing his need to travel, live in the sun and enjoy his 20s, Peckham went to University of Rhode Island where he graduated with a degree in Political Science. During college, he enjoyed the legal classes he took and excelled at debate. That led him to law school in Jacksonville where he graduated in 2009 and headed to South Florida. During law school, he had the opportunity to work for Pajcic & Pajcic, a Personal Injury firm, where Tad Griffin was his mentor. Here is where Peckham fell in love with personal injury work. Griffin had handled the Ford-Firestone rollover cases. His recommendation to Mike was to do defense work first so you gain the perspective of the defense side and then switch to personal injury work. That’s exactly what Peckham did after moving to South Florida. After that he worked with Hubie McGinley in his firm before the two joined Schwed, Adams, Sobel & McGinley in 2011. Peckham found a unique opportunity with this firm to be a trial attorney and now wants to be board certified as a trial lawyer.
Although he followed a road that many would not dare pursue, Mike’s travel and experiences allowed him the time and perspective to find his passion in the legal field. In his spare time, Mike still enjoys anything in the sun including golf, fishing, boating, photography and drones.
