DUI Manslaughter Charges in Journalist’s Death

The motorist involved in the death of a popular Martin County business journalist is now facing DUI manslaughter charges. Martin Drummond was the former business editor for the Stuart News and an avid cyclist. According to a TCPalm report, he was cycling in Stuart before 7:00 a.m. on a recent Friday. A 23-year-old in a BMW hit his bicycle from behind while riding on the Evans Crary Bridge. The motorist fled the scene but authorities arrested her later that day. Police charged the driver with DUI manslaughter and leaving the scene of the accident. Rescue workers reported Drummond dead at the scene despite attempts to resuscitate him.
