Golf Cart Accident Leaves One Dead and Two Injured

A tragic golf cart accident in Fort Myers resulted in one fatality and two injuries one recent Saturday morning. The golf cart driver lost control of his golf cart and crashed into a propane truck. According to a report in the Miami Herald, the 44-year-old driver of the golf cart overcorrected after losing control. This caused him to veer into oncoming traffic and then collide with a propane truck. The golf cart driver died at the scene, while a passenger and the truck driver sustained injuries.  Authorities are still investigating the accident and have not released additional details. Though the speed of the golf cart is unknown, this incident is a stark reminder of the importance of safe driving when operating a golf cart. With the prevalence of golf carts and golf cart accidents in Florida, this is especially true.

Florida Laws for Golf Cart Drivers

Under Florida law, golf cart drivers must adhere to the same rules as other motorists. In this incident, Florida law required the golf cart operator to follow the posted speed limit. If he lost control due to excessive speed, authorities could have issued him a ticket for speeding. Unfortunately, golf carts lack the safety protections of motor vehicles. This makes it critical for operators to obey traffic laws at all times. Whether you’re driving a golf cart or riding as a passenger, taking proper precautions can prevent accidents like this from happening.
